The Casabianda Prison was closed in 1885 following an epidemic of malaria and finally reopened in 1948. This detention center is located on the municipality of Aleria, 75 km from Bastia on the east coast of Corsica. It is implanted on an area of 1480 hectares and a circumference of about 20km. Its primary purpose is essentially agricultural with forest, cereals, dairy and animal productions. Due to its structure, functioning and organization, this prison is unique in France. It is indeed an "open institution" which means without outer walls. A detention center that welcomes long period sentenced, having considered the best prospects of reintegration. This work is an artistic response to the physical specificities of this prison. Like an invisible wall, the photographs represent the limit imposed on Casabianda inmates but also to free people. The numbers engraved on each photos, are the exact GPS information of where this virtual limit is supposed to be. I want with this work to consider the abilities of representation of photography and its own limits, but also the meaning of the sentence and the singularities of the only “open institution” in France. (One of the worst prison system in Europe)
